New Month

Hello everyone! Sorry I have been absent for such a long time, but I was busy studying and stuff like that.

I don't really have a specific topic for this post, so it will be a random one again. :D

(I love random posts)

Two weeks ago - or more, I can't remember actually - I started watching Green Gables Fables. Before this I also watched the Lizzie Bennet diaries, but I stopped, because it wasn't much fun, for me. I don't know, maybe because they where all wearing far to much make-up? (They did)
But Green Gables Fables is amazing! I loved it from the very first episode till the last, and I am so sad it ended so soon. There should have been a season three.

Ofcourse the movie with Megan Fellowes in it is still THE BEST. Obvious.

Anne is really very much like Anne would be if she had lived now. I think they did an amazing job on that. She is very enthusiastic, I love her hair (mine is actually that length, so that's one other reason why I like her so much. :P (except mine is not the same colour)) and how she dresses, her personality and how she grows throughout the series. And she is funny.

Diana is also great. She is very sweet, and caring. And sensible, wich is good. Especially with a friend like Anne, who can sometimes be dreaming away. :)

I absolutely love this picture. (that's Gilbert in the middle, and I like the person they picked for his role very much too. He's like Gilbert as I imagined him living in this era (is 'era' even a right word for these times?))
Three friends on a bridge, at dusk, in the winter. Anne's hair really stands out. :D

There are other characters, like Matthew, who I don't really like because no one can be any better than Matthew from the movie, like EVER, but he's okay.
Marilla is only seen once, when she is with Anne on her first day of university.
Then there's Fred, and Josie, and Jane (who is a really fun person because she is so serious!) and Ruby,

SPOILER ALERT

who has to leave the series for a very terrible reason. I am not quite over that yet. It was very very sad.

SPOILER ALERT OVER

Also, I have been reading a Dutch book about the sea and great characters, and it's set in 1900. Anything that has history mixed with the sea, is my jam. I love the sea, and I love history. To be precise, I like the things they did then, and how they dressed, what their customs where, rather than facts like dates and famous persons.

And it has been very winter-ish weather lately! Finally.

At first I had no idea what this bird was called in English, so I checked it on Google translate. It's a heron. He is very common in Holland.
Alas, the frost has dissapeared now, and we have to content ourselves with fog and cloudy skies. But that's beautiful too, so I have nothing to complain!

Well, that's it for now. Nothing interesting has happened, unless studying is interesting (wich it is, but not really... right?).

Aufwiedersehen! (I am studying German, hence the foreign greet :D)

''It is ever so much easier to be good if ones clothes are fashionable.'' - Anne Shirley

When I was younger, I always thought I would have a closet full of clothes that all suited me very well, and I would go through life elegantly and well-dressed, reading books, writing books and just being very happy. Of course, the latter three apply to me now, but that thing about being very elegantly and all that?

Well, let's say that I have a closet full of clothes and I still have hardly anything to wear. It is annoying, so last week I told myself I was going to find my own personal style.

I admit it, this is not even coming close to a post about period drama, or books, or writing, but since I also said this blog would be a little about my life, well ... here I go! I hope you all don't mind me blabbering on and on about clothes and what I like and that I like so many things that I might call myself a contradictory person etc.

But after searching on Pinterest I found a few blogposts about the subject and every single one of them said that I had to put all my clothes on my bed and decide with every one wether I love it very much or not. And then I would have this little pile of clothing items left over, and they would give me a hint of what I truly love.

Well, I did that and I couldn't figure out what kind of style THAT was. But it felt kind of nice having a more empty closet, it looked so neat. : )

Clothes one can find on my Pinterest board:

Okay. At least one thing is clear, I looooove sweaters. I don't know if that is because it's autumn right now, but I do love sweaters. And I also wished I had the haircolour of the girl in the green dress. : )

But anyway, I felt like sharing that with you. And actually, I now know a little better what I like. Finding six absolute favourite outfits out of at least 30, that's not easy. ; )

Also, the other thing that has been on my mind a lot lately, is the fact that I am soon, even before this year is over, turning eighteen. Sometimes it I am thrilled, but sometimes I get a little scared (just a little ). It is just that turning eighteen is so very different, it's quite a big step, actually.
Like closing even more of that chapter called childhood. Don't understand me wrong, I am not saying that I am not young or a child anymore when I turn eighteen (I will still jump in puddles or watch Cars (I know, weird, but I just like the plot so very very much) or build sandcastles when we go to the beach), but it is still, you know, a very different age than all the former ages.
It's like actually being almost a grown up. Think about it, in two years and a little month I will be twenty!

Okay, I will shut up. ; )

Have a great week!
(I will not be doing a lot of schoolwork *cheers happily* so that certainly counts for me!)

a random picture post

Hello! Lovely day, half sun, half clouds, half raining, typically something for Holland! (I don't actually know if you should write Holland or the Netherlands ...)

Today I would like to make a picture post, since I love pretty pictures. :)

The last one doesn't really fit in qua size, but I just thought it belonged among the pictures somehow. Maybe because it's blue. I am in a blue mood today. Not the sad blue mood though, just the happy one, the one of campfires in the snow and blue skies and the blue sweater I'm wearing, and the blue earings I'm wearing too, and blue eyes, and blue prints.
I am using a lot of ''ands'' in this sentence. Because I was in that mood too. =)

Hope you all have a delightful rest of the week!

Please call me Cordelia

''Please call me Cordelia.'' It's actually quite a pretty name, isn't it? Well, let's get to the point.
I am going to change the name Rebecca into Rebekka. That is because that is my name when it was given to me when I was born.

It might seem a little change, like changing Ann into Anne, but I think it is more like trying to change Anne into Cordelia, when I decided Rebecca sounded more elegant then Rebekka.

I don't know. I hope this is not confusing. I must admit I sound confusing to myself.

I am a Confunsing Person. Always have been, always will be.

... *akward silence when I read everything back and hope I don't sound weird* ...

So I will embrace the person I really am, and not the person I want to be.

It also felt a little like having a double life, one person here, an other person at blogger. Strange how a name can change things. Or, to be more accurate, how the spelling of a nam can change things.

But I am still the same weird me! With the rightfull spelling of my name.

I also would like to say that I am simply in love with the English language. Why isn't the Dutch language so beautiful?
Even a word like ''wisp'' is so much more glorious then the Dutch word (it's ''sliert''. Ew.)

-sumptuous
-lanky
-entangled
-sonder
-precious
-evolve
-ostentatious

... and so many more words that sound just better then in Dutch. Eventhough Dutch has its own set of pretty words, just not so much.

This is a Dutch word. :) It also means sweet, as in ''you are so sweet to me''.

New Header

The week is almost over and I am heading to a Saturday of reading North and South, writing my journal and trying watercolor paint for the ... what, hundredth time? (I can't seem to learn the techniques while thinking I master them completely.)

I also made a new header. I hope nobody minds me changing it all the time, but I have a hard time making a VERY good one, and I keep trying. But I thought this one came out fairly well.

I loved the picture of the cup with the roses, but it was a lot more difficult to fill in the rest of the page ...

Would love to know if you like it!

+ some pictures I found that I would love to have put in the above header, but didn't work out:

The Period Drama Tag

October is almost over, and sometimes, when I walk over the street, the wind rustles, and yellow-brown leaves whirl around me, and I feel the swishing of the fallen leaves beneath my feet, and breath in the air filled with the scents of autumn, a peculiar mix of mud, mist, smoke from the chimneys, pine needles and people walking by.
It seems as if the trees dress up in red, orange, gold, yellow or brown, before winter comes and they lose their leaves.
As if they are at their best. Their most beautiful. Before they enter a period in which they are just bare branched and seem a little desolate.
I love the fall.

And Ruth made a tag, a Period Drama Tag! Thanks Ruth, they are alsways great to answer.

1. Which period drama do you like most?

Downton Abbey. This one is still THE BEST.

2. Choose four characters from a period drama that you like most?

Sybil, Tom Branson, Anna and Rose.

3. Which period drama have you recently seen that you recommend to other bloggers?

Well, the most recent was The Land Girls, and I liked it. At start it was a little slow, and some scenes where a little fake. Time was going with large gaps between one episode and the other, but when I got used to that, I enjoyed it very much. I liked the second and third seasons the best. Especially the last. So these series I think will not be enjoyable to everyone, but if you ignore the above mentioned, it's quite nice.

4. If you had to choose, which period drama heroine do you like best?

Okay, this is a hard question. But I've always liked Emma very much, so I'll choose her.

5. And which period drama hero?

Mr. Knightley, of course. No doubt about that (to be precisely, mr. Knightley from Emma 2009).

6. Have you ever seen a movie who was exactly, or mostly, the same as the book?

Emma 2009 was very much like the book.

7. Which movies do you like most, Jane Austens movies (example: Emma), Dickens movies (example: Little Dorrit), or the movies from the Brontë Sisters (example: Jane Eyre)?

Jane Austen movies, definitely.

8. Would you rather play Emma in Emma, Lizzy in Pride and Prejudice, Catherine in Northanger Abbey, Mary in Downton Abbey, Marian in Robin Hood, Amy in Little Dorrit, or Jane in Jane Eyre?

Emma. As you can see, I really like that one. :)

9. Would you rather have Call the Midwife or Cranford?

Call the Midwife.

10. Which period drama that you haven't seen yet would you like to see?

Poldark. I can not wait until it arrives in our library.

11. Which adaption of Sense and Sensibility do you like most: 1995 or 2008?

Hard one. :) I like the first version because I like the Marianne and the Colonel in it very much, but the second because of Elinor and Edward Ferrars are so much better in this version ( Elinor because she actually looks like 19, and Edward Ferrars because of the fact that he is Mathew. ) I'll choose the first one though. I don't know why. Maybe because I have only seen the 2008 version once, and the 1995 version like ten times.

12.  And which adaption of Pride and Prejudice do you like most: 1995 or 2005?

I can not form an opinion on that one, since I haven't seen the 1995. Yet. So I will answer 2005. I like that one becacuse I like the dresses. And Mathew MacFayden = Darcy. :)

13.  Which couple from a period drama movie do you like most?

Sybil and Tom!

Robin Hood BBC Week + Tag

A Robin Hood Week! Rachel has a Robin Hood BBC week, and I am sorry to say that I have had hardly any time to write posts about this series, since being busy was getting in the way this week. But I am certainly going to fill out the tag she wrote!

So, here it is.

1. Who introduced you to the Robin Hood BBC series?

My mother. We had it on our Netflix list and she thought it might be a nice series. At first we all thought it wouldn't be much of a show but it turned out amazing!

2. How do you react when there is someone else who just started seeing the series?

I think I would say: ''O yes, you should watch it! Go and watch it, right now.''

3. Which season do you like the most?

 Definitely, absolutely the first.

4. Did you wanted the show to go on and on, or should it have ended just like it ended?

I disliked the end very much, since it made me cry. But apart from that, it was a magnificent ending, and just PERFECT. It was. Despite the sadness.

5. Favourite character? (Okay, pick at least four, because there are much characters to choose)

Only four? Okay, first of all, Marian. I love her. She is the best Marian ever. Next comes Much, then... Noooo, I can't just choose four favourite characters! I like Allan, and I like Will and Djaq, Meg, Robin, I even like Guy of Gisbourne (sometimes).
But I must choose four. Okay, here we go. I'll stick to Marian, Much, Djaq, and Allan.

6. Which character did you dislike the most?

Isabella. If it weren't for her, certain things that should have not happened, happened. And there is also Kate, who is super annoying, but if I would have to choose, it would absolutely be Isabella. She's terrible.

7. On a scale of 1-10, how much of a fan do you consider yourself?

I must admit that I am not completely a fan. I might be a seven, or an eight.

8. If you wanted to save someone of dying, who would it be?

O no, not nother impossible question, because so many characters die that shouldn't have died. How can I choose?!
Can I just choose everyone who died?
I think I will choose Marian. She and Robin where so happy together. So perfect.

9. Which character would you not want to play in the show?

I don't really understand if the question means who I wouln't want to play in the show, or who I wouldn't want to have in the show. If the first, it would be Isabella, if the second, it would be Isabella too.

10. While watching the series, did you ever read any spoilers about the show?

Maybe I should have, that would have saved me some shocks. But no, I never have. I like the surprise in a movie, or series. Watching spoilers would ... well, spoil it for me. :)

11. What's your favourite quote from Robin Hood BBC?

O, I like this question very much! Let's see ... ''Wil you tolerate this injustice? I, for one, will not.'' and I also like this one very much: ''Maybe he's stuck. People get stuck, y'know.'' But my favourite is the first.

12. At least, wich couple do you like the most?

Robin and Marian. They are perfect for each other.

Thank you Rachel, for making this tag. I enjoyed it very much!

Call the Midwife + Anne Brontë

This week we started watching Call the Midwife season five! We've waited for it quite a while, so when it finally came into our library, all the Call the Midwife fans in our family where thrilled. Amongst them, me.
I love these series. They are so hartwarming, true, beautiful, and funny sometimes, sad, and also shocking so here and there. It just is a series to remember and cherish. If you haven't watched this yet, please do! It's great.

Sorry for the blurriness :)

I've also finished reading Agnes Grey this afternoon. It's written by Anne Brontë, and I didn't even know it existed until I saw it in the library. I already had some experience with Charlotte and Emily Brontë, and I was hesitating. I finished Jane Eyre once, but only after some ... struggle. And Wuthering Heights, let's not speak of that one. I didn't even finish it. It wasn't really what I liked reading, all the dark and gloomy characters, and settings, and events.
But Agnes Grey was a thin little book, and I wondered how Anne Brontë would write, so I took it home with me.
And to my suprise I liked it! From the very beginning Anne Brontë captured me with her vivid sentences and I went on reading and reading.
I never liked a classic book as much as I liked Agnes Grey.
Her style is very different from that of her sisters. Edward Weston, the 'hero', wasn't someone who locked his wife in a tower, or took revenge all the time. Quite the contrary; he was kind, caring, calm and, well, likeable. I can't really point out what was so special about Edward Weston that made me like him, but maybe it was the fact that he was so ... normal (Besides the fact that he was kind and all that).
I also liked the main character, Agnes Grey. And the setting wasn't very gloomy, and the events weren't gloomy or dramatic either. Some where cheerful, there was a dog in it (Snap ), and meadows and sunshine, and Agnes Grey liked reading.

Now I just have to read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall! Have you ever read it, and is it enjoyable? I would love to know!

Blogger Recognition Award!

Hello everyone! Rae tagged me with the Blogger Recognition Award!

Rules:

Thank the blogger who nominated you.
Tell a little bit about how you started blogging.
Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers.
Nominate 15 other bloggers.

Thank you, Rae. :)

For a very long while I've wanted to start a blog, but I always hesitated, not knowing if I should. What if nobody read my blog? What if I couldn't write about anything interesting?
But then my sisters started a blog ( Rachel and Ruth ) and that gave me the little ''push'' I needed. And then the name. I always have trouble coming op with names. Like titles for my stories and blog posts and ideas ... But anyway, after some thought I decided I'd call it 'It's a Wonderful Life'.  I read a book ( a Dutch book, but it was about America and it was great, with vintage cars and dresses and a little teashop and quotes, and the girl was my age ) with that title. I know there is a movie with the same title, but I haven't watched that one ... yet. :)
And Life is wonderful. Right?
And now I have this blog since August. Two months. Wow, that is actually not very much, thinking about it.
But that was the story of my blog and how it started.

Now the two pieces of advice. I'll try, but since I am actually still a 'new blogger' too, I don't know if I'll give any valuable advice, but I'll write from what I think I should keep doing. :)
1.) Just don't give up. Even if nobody reads your blogposts. Don't quit.
2.) Actually my sister gave me this advice, but: If you comment and/or follow other blogs, there will be a bigger change that other people also start following and commenting you own blog.

Nominate 15 other bloggers? I don't follow so many. Or even know so many.
What must I do?!

I hope it's okay if I don't reach the number fifteen, but just name everyone I know.

Ruth
Rachel
Miss Evie

And just anyone who wants to do this too and hasn't been tagged yet. I hope that does count! I would tag Rae to, but since she already was tagged and tagged me, I don't know if that counts.

Thanks again!

A To-Do List for Fall

Hello everyone! Since fall is nearly there, I thought I might make a to-do list. Real fun, because I looove making lists. I am just not very good at actually doing the things on that list. I either forget all about it, or just lose the list and don't think about it anymore.

But I will not lose or forget about the list now. I'll try to do at least five things listed. :)

So, here we go!

1.) Take a walk in the rain. Autumn is famous for its rain, so a good time to try that. I know it's cold and wet, but I'll use an umbrella and rain boots to keep dry. And warm. Because, when else do we have the opportunity to use that big umbrella and those shiny boots that get dusty in the cellar?

2.) Try different kinds of coffee. Right now I love to drink 1/3 part coffee, and 2/3 part milk, but I would love to try cappuccino! Or just plain coffee with no milk. Or anything else that exists.

3.) Read a few classics this fall. I brought 'The Last of the Mohicans' from the library last week, and I think I'm going to start with that one. :) Also I want to try Moby Dick, and The Grapes of Wrath, and Sense and Sensebility. (I started it two times, but never finished it. I should, right?)

4.) Take photographs that define autumn, like spiderwebs covered with dew or raindropps, colored leaves, sunsets, flying geese and cups of tea.

5.) Start watching Pride and Prejudice 1995 with my two sisters. I have allready seen the 2005 version and I love it, but I think I should watch the other version to. And besides that I should, I really want to watch it. :D
The picture is very beautiful by the way.

6.) Practice the piano more often. I am working on a little (easy) piece from Beethoven. We don't have a lot of sheet music at our house, sadly, but maybe I should give the dust gathering Beethoven and Mozart sheet music a shot.

7.) Finish my brown fall/winter skirt. Can't wait to wear it on a cold day! If I finish it ...

8.) Start writing short stories. Like, really short stories, and written by hand, in a notebook, like on the picture.

9.) Keep my tiny orchid without flowers, alive. I allready gave up hope, but when I just yet looked at it, I saw a new stem is sprouting. Maybe there is still hope for me when it concerns plants and stuff like that. Because I can't seem to keep flowers/plants alive. Here in the Netherlands we call a person who is really good with plants and flowers a person with green fingers. I don't know how people say that in English, and I couldn't find it on Translater, so ... I obviously don't have green fingers. :)

10.) Make sure I bring a little notebook with pen everywhere, so I can write down ideas or sentences right away when they come up in my head. I hardly ever do that, and when I happen to have this amazing sentence popping up, or hearing someone say something I never want to forget, my notebook is never there. Or my pen. So, forming that habit is certainly one thing that I should do!

11.) Get my hair cut in layers. The last time I went to a hairdresser, this happened:

Well, okay, it was the first time I ever went to a hairdresser, but I think it will happen a lot more than just once, because I am not so straightforward to say exactly what I want.

12.) Find out wich style is ''exactly me''. I have, for a very long time, not cared so much about clothes and all that. Untill I was around thirteen. But only now I am finally finding my own style a little.

13.) Watching old movies. I really want to watch a movie where Audrey Hepburn acts in, but I can't find them anywhere!

14.) Wear socks and sweaters. The lovely thing about cold weather is that you can finally wear warm stuff, and enjoy soup (hot soup in summer is not enjoyable), and drink warm tea and read on bed covered in a nice blanket.

15.) Have lots of time together with my family; taking walks, or watching a movie, or going away for the day, or just enjoy freshly baked muffins. :D That's the best thing ever, being together as family.

Well, that was about it. Fifteen things to do is not quite much, but fall will be over far to soon. By the end of November I'll ckeck this list again and see what things I can cross through!

What I have been doing

Hello, everybody who reads my blog! I've been away for awhile, so I couldn't blog for the past week and more, but I am back again.

Weird Fact: Last week was the first time in my life I took a bus. Not a cool bus like the one on the picture, alas, but still. But I never drove in one before. Just because we have a car at home and never had to use a bus.
So it was kind of scary, doing it the very first time and all, but I enjoyed it very much. It was exciting and NEW. New things are always fun to do. An adventure, it is, for me, doing new stuff.
I can recall that I went on a bus once when I was very little, but that doesn't count. I only remember we had to stand, there where no seats left for us.
So, now I know how to take a bus and all!

Also, we had a lovely Indian Summer this week; when it's hot and the sun shines and its like Spain or Portugal in midsummer. We hardly ever have an Indian Summer in September.

Indian Summer ... I love how that sounds.

Now the weather has turned to normal. Cloudy and colder. I really look forward to fall, when I can finally start making that brown fall/winter skirt I want to make for such a long time. I allready stitched a few seams, but there was always something else to do.

We also watched Inside Out again. I don't really like animated movies, but this is one of the few I don't mind watching. I especially love Joy and Sadness.

The story is real interesting. I won't tell it all, in case you haven't watched this movie yet, but eventually Joy finds out how important Sadness actually is. In the start she tried to keep her away from everything, believing Sadness would make their girl, Riley, unhappy. (they represent the emotions in the brain) There's a good story behind Inside Out.

Joy looks fluffy though, if you take a closer look at her. I noticed that the second time we watched the movie. And I also noticed that Joy and Sadness both have blue hair. Maybe that wants to say that they are kind of the same. That they sometimes need to work together, instead of apart.

And then I read a lot, of course. I tried to read Vilette, written by Charlotte Brönte, but I couldn't. I just could not get on with it.

And today I found this on Pinterest.

Isn't that amazing? These little kids giving their definition of love, and they are so true. Some of them are funny, but most of them are beautiful.
Things like this makes me blink, get a little teary, and want to write it all down and put it somewhere in my room where I can see it and think: little kids actually know it best.

It's time to get away from my laptop and start doing stuff that needs to be done! So I'll say goodbye, for now.

~Rebecca~

Another Tag!

Rachel from A Girl's Place tagged me with The Celibrities Tag.

If you are reading this, thank you, Rachel!

Rules:
Paste the 'Famous People Tag' button on your own blog
Answer the questions
Tagging is optional

The Questions:

1. Who's your favourite actress (Okay, pick at least three, because there are so many of them)

My favourite actress? There are so many! Julie Andrews (because she playes in The Sound of Music, and in The Princess Diaries) Keeley Hawes (because she playes in good movies I have seen, like Wives and Daughters) and Jessica Brown Findlay (because she is Sybil).

2. Which red carpet dress is the best one you ever saw?

Ehm ... I never look at red carpet dresses, but now I will search Pinterest to find one.

This is the one I found where I thought: why, this one doesn't look that bad. It's lady Rose. (I hope I'm not wrong here)

3. If there is going to be a new Pride and Prejudice, which actor and actress you choose for Elizabeth and Darcy?

I wouldn't know. This is a very hard question.

4. Do you know Lily James real full name without looking it up on Internet?

No, I don't. Is it something with Ninette in it? ...after looking it up... 'Lily Chloe Ninette Thomson'.

5. Who's your favourite actor? (Pick at least three, because there are so many actors)

Actors, favourite actors? Well, I like Matthew Macfayden (beacuse of Little Dorrit!) and Allan Leech (because he's Tom Branson in Downton Abbey. Of course.) And Dan Stevens (as Matthew Crawley).

6. Which red carpet dress is the worst you ever saw?

 This one. Sorry, Michelle Dockery.

7. Who's your favourite Royal family?

I guess the Royal family of England.

8. Are there actors/actressess you don't like? If yes, why?

No. I do not like some as the persons they play in movies, but towards the people they are in real life I don't know what they are like, so I can't not like anyone.

9. Do you have a favourite child actor/actress?

George, who is a twin in real life

10. What's the prettiest celibrities name you ever heard?

Keri Russel. Maybe because I like The Magic of Ordinary Days so much. If you haven't watched that movie, you should try!

11. What's your favourite movie quote?

This one is difficult. Let 's choose one from a movie I've recently watched. ''You are marching into the unknown, armed with ... nothing. Have a sandwich.'' It 's from You've Got Mail.

12. If you where an actress, and you where casted to play one of the ladies of DA, who would you want to play?

Hard one ... I think I would choose Lady Rose, because she is a real interesting person in the series. She goes through a whole lot of different things, and she is just so kind. And I like her wardrobe the best. :)

13. Do you often talk about actors/actressess with your family?

Almost never. I do talk about movies a lot. Sometimes I talk about actresses and actors with my sisters.

14. Which actor/actress would you want to meet? (Right, just pick two, to make it funner)

Meet? O, I wouldn't feel very comfertable to actually meet any of the actors or actressesses I know, but I would like to ask them a few questions. I would like to meet Edith and ask her all about her role in Downton Abbey, and I would also like to ask Mr Carson which series he liked better, Downton Abbey or Cranford. I know it might be weird, but I'd like to know.

Well, this was a lovely tag. I will be making actual posts soon, too. Thank you Rachel!
